"Whatcha got there?" "I got a banana."

Seriously, these two guys have way too much free time on their hands.

Perhaps Engadget should send these guys to do the next iPhone commercial.

A fine academic presentation and paper!

If you want to see how academic research is done, you should watch this video:

Now, go read his paper and discuss this in the comments!

What?

Ron "Boogiemonster" Gerber just said my name!

I just sent an e-mail to Ron "Boogiemonster" Gerber who does a very cool radio show called Crap from the Past on KFAI in Minneapolis and he mentioned that I was listening on the air! I also told him about my radio days at KUMM in Morris (which he seemed to think was near Winona -- can you even pick up KUMM in Winona?) which was very cool.

He has an extensive archive of every CFTP show he's done since 1992 on his Web site. The show I'm listening to now should be available as a podcast on his site in the next day or so.

Update: I just got an e-mail reply from Ron himself:
Joey - Very cool! I told my KUMM story on the air...

I don't have any of those three songs, but it gives me stuff to look for!

Thanks for writing!
Ron G

The three songs I requested were "Little Girls" by Oingo Boingo, "Garden Party" by Marillion, and "The Animal Song" by The Europeans. I know the first two should be fairly easy to find either on CD or online, so maybe I'll reply to Ron later about those.

I received the following bit of spam at work the other day:

From: Trinidad Spicer [mailto:bumtransplacefor@transplace.com]
Sent: Friday, October 27, 2006 3:29 PM
Subject: Three cheers for you!

We are so much glad to present a new suggestion you will never give up.
This is a worthwhile chance to earnmoney without the risk of wasting
them. We assure you, it's a stable agreement with no demur.

We have got thoroughly inspected message about the new rise on the
market next session. We anticipate some outstanding news gonna be
brought to publicity on Friday, and they will definitely tear you to
pieces! The cause is in (W_B_R_S .PK) that's rapidly moving up but you
still can take a position to dig in & benefit from it. The price gonna
be mad on the way up, add yourself to it now while it is on its lows and
get richier. You ought to remember that such a chance usually may not go
unnoticed for long.

Don't be happy with your preceding progress; show what you are able to
do now! Once you decide to put in your savings, you will take a notice
that earning bucks with (W_B_R_S . PK) is such a pleasant & easy work
without anyneed to be worried about it.

I know to not invest in (W_B_R_S . PK), but I can imagine some random guy hawking it to passersby on a street corner in some large metropolis. Lots of people would probably eat it up because, in the words of Trinidad Spicer, it's "a stable agreement with no demur."

What?

Morris, here I come!

I'm sitting at the JAX airport waiting for my plane to MSP, which will be leaving in about an hour!

I'll be attending UMM's Homecoming 2006 this weekend, much like I did last year. I'm excited about seeing Imholte Hall and Big Cat Stadium!

I'll leave you with a new polka medley from "Weird Al" Yankovic:

Bohemian Rhapsody

It's a series of tubes!

I've been playing around with GarageBand on my new iMac this weekend. My fiddling has resulted in a remix of Senator Ted Stevens' recent "Series of Tubes" speech about Net neutrality.

In addition to my adaptation of Stevens' speech, there are a couple of others out there, such as this amusing video. Thank you for inspiring us, Ted!
